Research at UBC

PythonGeotechnical EngineeringResearch

Conducted research under Dr. Davide Elmo at the intersection of ML and geotechnical engineering, developing random forest, gradient-boosted random forest, and support vector machine models using Python in Jupyter Notebook. Worked with a 1,080-sample geological dataset and carried out data preprocessing, dimensionality reduction (PCA, feature selection), and data balancing (SMOTE, downsampling) to address class imbalance and improve model performance. I also co-authored a peer-reviewed publication, Rock Engineering Knowledge and Radical Uncertainty: From Empirical Methods to Professional Practice (Geosciences, November 2025), examining empirical approaches, uncertainty, and professional responsibility in rock engineering.
